Portable Farms Ltd. Targeting Eco Housing and Eco Cities

Portable FarmsEco Housing and Eco Cities Using Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems

Portable Farms Ltd is dedicated to advancing Eco Housing and Eco Cities in their effort to become carbon negative in an urban environment. Portable Farms Ltd has designed the Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems to advance the local self- sustainability of every installation.

240,000 vegetables and 92,000 pounds of fish can be grown on one single acre of level ground.

The Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems were designed for stability, and can be built out of renewable and very long lasting materials such as wood, concrete and glass. Initially it is easier and less expensive to use plastics, but they can be built out of the above materials.

Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems can be built free standing or incorporated into new or existing buildings to take advantage of the sun angle, wind direction and the local climatic conditions. This reduces the energy needs and enhances the efficiencies of the systems and the buildings themselves.

The Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems can be powered by solar, wind, geothermal and any other renewable resources harnessing technologies currently available. This allows the systems to be free of the electrical and the water grids.

They can be sustained by the collection and storage of rain water and snow runoff. The water needs are so much less than in-ground growing (90% to 95%) that in most areas of the world, the rain water collected from the PFAS Units themselves is sufficient to meet the annual water needs of the installation.

The Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems can be modified to handle regular gray and black water waste and process the water to be reused and recycled. This recycling of water reduces the overall need for more water to be added to the systems.

The PFAS creates local jobs. Initially, there are the construction jobs and then the ongoing operations of the PFAS Units, the processing of the food and fish, and the local distribution of the produce and fish. Each acre of PFAS creates six to ten full time jobs locally.

Portable FarmsAll of the components of the PFAS can be obtained or built locally and out of readily available materials. If, and when, the structure ends its useful life, all of the materials can be recycled.

The PFAS can be part of the local efforts to Terra-form the local buildings in order to maximize the available energy requirements and reduce the need for any imported energy. This includes the careful design and planning of wall, roof and ground-cover to either increase heat gain or discourage it, depending on what the needs of the building are during different seasons of the year.

Portable Farms

  • Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems are ideal for Eco Cities because they enhance the quality of life, health and sustainability of residents so they will thrive in harmony with nature. Our systems are designed to enhance the lives of their residents by growing healthy, organic food and fresh, farm-raised fish and to maintain the ecosystems on which they depend.
  • As the world’s cities currently consume 60% to 80% of the global energy production, Eco Cities are growing near major world cities in their efforts to create enclaves for those who are striving toward sustainability in an urban residential community. Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems are the solution for providing a low-energy, minimal water, and low-labor solution for having an onsite food production facility that residents can depend on for a safe and controllable food supply.
  • As climate change becomes an issue of global importance to encourage a constant food supply to local residents without depending on the charity of other communities or countries to import food during times of drought or flooding, Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems has solved the problems of ‘weather’ and a reliable food source regardless of climate conditions.
  • The development of new Eco-Cities around the world is being organized by stakeholders ranging from conscientious green builders, community organizers and governments who foresee the needs for the future of their people. This ‘movement’ of sustainable communities is the next big wave of urban development for those who understand the needs of those seeking basic human rights regarding protection of global resources, health and well-being.
